Van Cleef & Arpels unveils The Fée Ondine

On the occasion of the SIHH 2017, Van Cleef & Arpels unveil its first Extraordinary Object: the Automate Fée Ondine. The fruit of long years’ work and an intense collaboration with automaton maker François Junod, the project also owes its existence to the savoir-faire of the numerous craftsmen who have taken part in its creation.

Van Cleef & Arpels presented a prodigious piece at SIHH 17, Fairy Ondine.
The performance of Van Cleef & Arpels performed at the SIHH 17 is exceptional, poetic, symbolic. This new creation named Fée Ondine, is an automaton resulting from a long work combining meticulousness and elegance.
More than a collector's piece, the Fairy Ondine is a work intended to inspire the craftsmen for the future collections but also a demonstration of the capacities of the House to give life to his imagination. Nicolas Bos, President of Van Cleef & Arpels, explains this new creation: "This automaton Fairy Ondine refers to these animated objects, endowed with fascinating mechanisms, almost magic, which inspire us very much in watchmaking. It's like a companion piece, which is not thought for commercial purpose, but it will surely make it possible to pull wires for other creations to come. "collect.
Already known for its transformable jewelery pieces and its poetic horological complications, the Van Cleef & Arpels house highlights the talent of its craftsmen in this new "automatic" tresor representing a fairy. Sitting on an animated water-lily, the fairy observes a flower that opens to let a butterfly escape.
Eight years of development, three years of realization and twenty workshops such as crimping, engraving, lapidary, this piece is the perfect marriage between the virility incarnated by watchmaking and the femininity of jewelry.
